Whiplash

Welcome to London Osteopathy & Pilates for whiplash treatment London.

Have you recently suffered whiplash in a car accident or other circumstance in which your body was thrown in a sudden, forced jerk?

If so, just get in touch with Registered Osteopath David Canevaro today to receive a thorough examination and diagnosis of your whiplash injury, followed by a personalised plan of osteopathic treatment and even referral to a medical specialist if necessary.

Whiplash injuries can cause a variety of both acute and chronic symptoms, but you do not have to suffer either.

What causes a whiplash injury?

A whiplash injury is suffered when the neck moves rapidly backwards and forwards beyond its normal range of motion. Whiplash injuries are usually caused by front end or rear end road traffic accidents, although they can also occur as a result of a sports injury or fall.

Whiplash injuries involve damage to the neck’s muscles, tendons and ligaments. The most commonly affected areas are the sternocleidomastoid, longus coli and levator scapulae muscles.

More severe incidents may result in bone fractures, joint sprains or injuries to nerves.

What are the symptoms of whiplash?

As this type of injury happens so quickly, substantial tissue damage can occur, causing a wide range of symptoms. Symptoms tend to develop in a 24 hour to 48 hour period after the injury and include:

  • Neck pain
  • Dizziness
  • Headaches
  • Blurred vision
  • Low back pain
  • Pins and needles

Always seek immediate medical attention if such symptoms occur as unconsciousness, loss of memory, blurred vision or dizziness.

How do we treat whiplash?

If your whiplash condition is not sufficiently minor to allow for recovery without treatment, we offer several forms of physical therapy. We use a range of osteopathic techniques to speed up your body’s recovery and restore flexibility, including osteopathic articulation of the joints and stretching of the muscles.

We also offer massage, for relieving muscle tension and spasm and restoring normal circulation to the muscles. We also work to lessen the strain on your neck by improving posture, and use various techniques for the longer-term management of more chronic pain.
