David trained as a Pilates instructor with Polestar Pilates and the Australian Physiotherapy Pilates Institute, and is a qualified osteopath, western Acupuncturist and sports therapist with 20 years’ experience. David is registered with the General Osteopathic Council and is an expert soft tissue manipulator having treated many international athletes and dancers.
Osteopathy is an art. It is a skill which focuses on total body healthcare with a strong emphasis on strengthening the core musculoskeletal framework.
Located in Central London, our trained experts are dedicated to the science of positive stimulation of the body's lymphatic, nervous and circulatory systems.
David Canevaro is a leading London osteopath that uses osteopathic manipulation techniques (OMTs) to treat aches and pains to return the nerves to their normal function and allow your blood to flow freely throughout your circulatory system.
If you ever suffer a whiplash, migraine, headaches, especially after dental work, or have a baby that won’t sleep or stop screaming, the gentle treatment of cranial osteopathy also known as cranio-sacral therapy can provide immense relief. Although subject to some controversy, cranial osteopathy is often extraordinarily effective. However, as one of the most experienced osteopaths in London, we have a range of Cranial Osteopaths who specialise in this art, treating infants, children and adults.
Pilates has been practiced since the 1920s and is based on the belief that physical and mental health is closely connected.
David and his team approach this area of expertise via the use of Clinical Pilates, which is traditional Pilates-type exercises combined with an osteopathic assessment and treatment.
David calls this fusion of osteopathy and Pilates―“osteolates”―which helps to improve posture, muscle tone, balance and joint mobility; it can also relieve stress and tension. For amateur and professional athletes and dancers, Pilates can complement their training by developing whole body strength and flexibility and help to reduce risk of injury.
That miserable pain you get in the lower region of your back, whether constant and dull or stabbing and provoking is not caused by disease or serious damage but is muscular. A sprain, minor injury, a pinched or irritated nerve is the culprit. It can be banished with acupuncture, which is the painless application of very fine hair-like needles into the body where nerves enter a muscle, or muscle joins with the bone – these are acupoints. David’s acupuncture is a cost-effective treatment providing welcome relief from pain, reducing inflammation, improving muscle stiffness, increasing your joint mobility, and reducing reliance on medication. It is especially effective when combined with conventional treatments such as rehabilitation exercises.
Sports massage is one of the oldest forms of physical therapy having been used for over 3000 years. David has long experience as a sports therapist, long before he qualified as an osteopath. He has a thorough understanding of anatomy and physiology, particularly the muscular and skeletal systems. Athletes wishing to improve performance by enhancing their skill, strength, stamina, suppleness and speed are individually assessed and advised a training schedule. An additional benefit is that it helps to prevent injury.
A systematic evaluation is made of your postural control and body movements to analyse how you stand, walk or run, and the degree of any impairment in your posture and joint movements. David uses his extensive experience to identify posture-related and movement-related problems, which enables a course of treatment and exercises with the Pilates machines to be recommended. Often, after gait assessment and analysis, patients can undertake immediate remedial action at either of our clinics.
When walking or running, the legs need to control and absorb body loads when contacting the ground. Legs, and especially feet, need to be in a stable condition when propelling ourselves forward―mobile at ground contact and rigid at propulsion. David will assess the anatomy of your feet and limbs in stationary and dynamic positions. He will observe your natural foot and limb alignment, range of joint motion, muscle strength, any feet pronation and how your limbs and feet respond to loading and affect the rest of your body. David’s biomechanical assessment will provide you with information about your mobility and provide you with a link between your function and any injury patterns.
The David Canevaro Osteopathy clinics use several diagnostic procedures to restore the optimal function of a particular part of the body, stimulating it to use its natural self-healing properties. David’s osteopathy and Pilates techniques fashioned over many years, focus on diagnosis, treatment, prevention and rehabilitation.
